For those of us with pets, it can be difficult to strike a balance between aesthetic appeal and animal friendliness. Indeed, our furry friends tend to be curious and even a bit mischievous from time to time! Keeping them safe and entertained throughout the day requires special efforts, and it might mean that certain decorative measures are off limits.

Luckily, with some imagination it is possible to embrace the pet-friendly mentality and create something truly unique. Today on homify360, we’ve found one such home in Japan by Pal Design. Much like the increasingly popular cat cafes that are cropping up around the globe, the abode combines cute and cosy finishes with plenty of cat friendly surfaces throughout, successfully integrating the felines right into the decorative scheme. We hope you’ll join us for a closer look inside!

Integrating the animals

At first glance you may not even notice how kitty friendly this space is. Decorated with the simplicity and colour schemes traditionally associated with Japanese design, this abode might seem on the surface just like any other family home found in this part of the world.

Yet, upon closer inspection, it is clear that this space was designed around the needs of its feline inhabitants. First and foremost, there is an elevated a catwalk situated around the perimeter of this living room for the cats to observe their domain.

This setup allows for the felines and their human companions to live side by side in perfect harmony. The cats can hang out in their own special spots while the people have the sofas to themselves to enjoy a movie or football game under their watchful gaze. Everyone is happy!

Meanwhile, the home contains some elements of modern design, like this crimson floor lamp, to keep things stylish.

Cascading cats!

While cats are widely known for their finesse and cleverness, it is natural to wonder just how they might get up to the catwalk in the first place. With the help of these wall- mounted platforms, the kitties can easily go up and down as they please.

Plus, the steps look much like a set of simple floating shelves, which further helps to integrate the cat friendly elements of the space into the surrounding decorative scheme.

Mini stairs

The fun doesn’t stop in the living room! As we head down the hallway it is clear that this home is filled with clever little spots for the cats to play.

What appear to be shelves or some kind of funky wall décor turn out to be a set of mini staircases for the cats to enjoy additional climbing in the apartment. Using vertical space in your smaller abode is an excellent way to ensure that your felines have enough room to stay active.

Doing double duty

As we mentioned earlier, the various cat-oriented items mounted on the walls often look similar to bookshelves, which ultimately helps to better integrate the cat friendly details into the design scheme more broadly.

In this case, these floating boxes double as both shelves and kitty perches! Their design keeps the cats from meddling with the items on the shelves.
