Certain food odours such as those from mutton fat, broiled fish and masala that have such a wonderful aroma when it's cooking, but unfortunately always leaves a distasteful pungent smell that lingers. If the techniques mentioned below don't work, you might have a bigger problem. For more information on how to solve this problem, please read how to get rid of the bad small from drains.

1. Shut all the room doors while cooking

Keep in mind that fabric absorbs smells and there's a lot of fabric in bedrooms. This is why it's best to close all the bedroom doors while cooking to prevent the fabric in the bedrooms from absorbing the food odours from the kitchen.

2. Open the kitchen windows

One of the most effective ways of reducing cooking smells in the kitchen is to open all the windows while cooking and leave it open until the smell escapes through the window and fresh air comes in. It's also a good idea to invest in an extractor hood to be installed above the stove if you don't have one already. Alternatively, an air filter can be used to get rid of food odours (just remember to change the filters frequently). Another idea is to place a fan near the window to direct the air from the kitchen outside.

3. Clean up right away

Make it a habit to clean up immediately after cooking, so that you don't leave any food remains such as splatters on the stove or food residue on dirty dishes in the sink. If a greasy curry pot has been soaking in your sink overnight, you can be sure that it will contribute to the unpleasant odours in the kitchen. 4. Make your own natural air freshener

All you need to do is simmer some lemon peels, cloves and cinnamon in water over the stove for 30 minutes and your kitchen will be smelling a whole lot more pleasant. Brewing coffee can also help mask unpleasant food odours. Certain plants can also help to filter the air in a home. For more information, please read how to choose indoor plants for my home.

5. Use common household products to remove the smell

An inexpensive concoction of a few common household products left on the kitchen counter overnight is known to effectively remove cooking smells. Just place a small bowl with coffee grounds, baking soda and white vinegar in the kitchen overnight, and it will absorb all the odours, leaving you with a fresh-smelling kitchen in the morning.
