If you feel like you're falling out of love with your old home, then don't rush out to look at the property market just yet, it may be that all your home needs is a good renovation! Sometimes the true charm of a home is just waiting to show itself, hidden behind a dated decor, and old fashioned architecture. That's exactly the case of the home we're looking at today, an old single storey house was full of unrealised potential before the experts at homify took over, and gave it a completely new look.

Starting life as a typical suburban home with a pitched roof, the architects behind this amazing transformation had the vision to know an exciting modern home was waiting beneath the uninspired design, and set about stripping this house down to its bare bones, and fashioning something entirely new. The results, as you're about to see, are spectacular. The exterior takes a minimalist approach, while the interior is a light and bright space, decorated with vibrant colours, exotic ornaments, and modern fittings. Let's take a closer look!

Before: ready for an upgrade

This house certainly has character, unfortunately it doesn't wear its age particularly well. The pitched roof looks unstable, and with old roof tiles might collapse at any moment. The colour scheme is not particularly effective, and we suspect that even when the paint was fresh the exterior looked stale.

Before: slow deterioration

The boundary fence is covered in stains that show its slow degradation over time, and the ramshackle wire at the top looks messy and unappealing. While the basic structure is fine, there's a lot of work to do to make this house liveable.

Before: stripped back

This is the fun part; stripping back the structure to its skeleton so that the designers can start afresh. The pitched roof has been completely removed, the paint stripped, and the windows and doors are gone, ready to be replaced. The gate has been removed, and the fence is soon to follow, let's see what it looks like when they're done!

After: a minimalist dream

What an unbelievable transformation! The home is now defined by clean lines, with its simplicity acting as its greatest strength. A new garden has been put in, and is ready for planting, and new tiles have been put into the driveway. A gorgeous new timber door has been installed, with a strip of brown marking the entrance to create a dynamic exterior with a big impact.

After: an open plan living area

The home has a really fun interior, with exotic decorations, and timber furniture that makes this feel like a summery outdoor area. The open plan design makes the most of the space available, with all of the social areas combined into one expansive space. Mediterranean tiles, and a wood fired oven add to the summer vibe, making every day feel like a holiday.

After: the indoor garden

The unique structure of this home includes an enclosed courtyard that has been turned into an interior garden which enhances the outdoor feel of the space, especially with those full wall glass doors that bring the lush greenery, complemented by the pastel wall, into the decor. The decorators had a very specific vision in mind, and they executed it beautifully.

After: the kitchen

Aside from the barbecue in the living area there is also a traditional kitchen that features modern fittings, sleek purple cabinets, and plenty of preparation space afforded by the benches on either side. The white colour palette and Mediterranean tiles featured in the rest of the house continue here, ensuring there is thematic unity, and that the home is a light and bright space that makes the most of the sunlight.

No matter what state your home is in, this incredible transformation proves there's always a beautiful home just waiting to emerge. For another inspiring before and after, this time by a young couple with a small budget, head over here!
