Mirrors are one of those wonderful accessories that can hold both utilitarian function and offer a beautiful piece of art in your home.  Yes, you can hit a point where you have too many, but you can also have one in every room and venue and it won't be too much.

Offering different shapes, styles, colours and sizes, mirrors are one of the most versatile decorative additions you can add to your home.  They can either be a small accent feature, or a large-scale statement piece – and that is an incredible concept!  Below we have featured six ways in which you can choose the perfect mirror, depending on your space, style and taste!

Different shapes

Coming in just about any shape you can imagine, mirrors can work with almost any style room.  As seen here, this square-shaped, framed mirror with a great grain and shade of wood perfectly accents the other neutrals in the room and the dark wood adds a bold pop of colour.

The mirror is large enough that it's the focal point of the room, yet not too demanding of your constant attention.   Make sure depending on the shape of the mirror, that you strategically place the mirror at head-height and symmetrically angle it so it sets balance to the room, rather than making one wall seem heavier than the others.

Different materials

If you're more into the decorative and artistic qualities of mirrors, think about the various materials that can be used to make mirrors fabulous.  Many manufacturers and designers offer mirrors mixed with mosaic glass, raw stones, or even painted features.  The mirror seen here has a modern, retro print that mixes small white pieces into the overall scheme.

Notice that the mirror is hanging from two minimal metal hangers, creating balance between the dining room lamp and the darker colours in the living room.  To find the perfect mirror for your room don't be afraid to head to antique and second-hand stores for a truly unique feature.

Sizes

If you've ever lived in a smaller apartment, or a student apartment, than you know that mirrors can come in all shapes and sizes. From stand-alone vanity mirrors with built-in LEDs, to floor-to-ceiling mirrors that cover sliding closet doors and hanging mirrors – almost any size you want should be available at your disposal.

This homeowner chose large-scale mirrors to cover the storage compartments in this living room.  Placing mirrors in this way, with this large of a size, creates an illusion of an extension of space and allows both natural and artificial light to reflect into the entirety of your room!

Think a full-length mirror is too much for your space? Think about adding an accent wall that is made of 100% mirror, like seen here! We promise you won't regret it!

Styles

Homeowners with eclectic, rustic, modern or even Scandinavian tastes are surely to be able to find a mirror that highlights and accents the design features in their rooms!

This minimalist, Scandinavian-style apartment has chosen a round, hanging mirror to the left of the door with the chair to create a lobby-type of area. This type of area is where you can throw your coat and scarf down and check yourself before leaving the house for a meeting.

If you're super-minimalist, choose mirrors that are smaller in size and unframed – if you have more eclectic or rustic tastes, think the opposite.  Circular mirrors are also a great addition because most areas and decor in our homes tend to be of square or rectangular nature.

Have a more eclectic or romantic space and don't know which style mirror to choose? Take a look at this great vanity area!

Framed or unframed

This large-scale, framed mirror in this living room was a great choice to add a small sense of eclecticism into this otherwise modern space.  Unframed mirrors can be minimalistic, smooth and create clean lines in your home, whether it be your living room or bedroom.  Framed mirrors can be extremely versatile too in that you can customize the surrounding frame, or easily paint over it and make changes.

Think old frames around mirrors look too old-school? Think again – adding mirrors like the one seen here can really bring something special into your room!

Unusual choices

The most fun aspect of mirrors are their artistic qualities. Think about unique shapes, sizes and styles and where these don't work – think about the way you hang or place your mirror to bring more life to it!

This homeowner decided to purchase a series of four mirrors and hang them so they work together to highlight the room and add an artistic element.  They are also unframed which works well with the rest of the minimalist and clean lines in this living room!

This bedroom has a great mirror in size, style and placement!
