The kitchen is place that gets messy quite easy, and over time it may accumulate a lot of unnecessary objects as they hide away in the backs of your drawers and cupboards. However, keeping your kitchen clean, systematic, and ordered is not a difficult task! It just takes a bit of preparation and forethought.

Here are 12 easy steps to get you started out in the most intelligent way so that as you go through the shuffle of a busy day in the kitchen, you can enjoy working in a modern, beautiful and generous cooking space.

1. Make sure that each item is in a spot that makes sense

One of the most important keys to taking care of the kitchen,is to ensure that all objects have their own spot—and that the spot makes sense! There's no sense in placing a spatula by the fridge if you always use it on the stove. Have a look at your kitchen items and decide if everything truly is in the right spot, of if you are due for a bit of re-thinking. With everything where it makes the most sense, the kitchen becomes simple and easy to use.

2. If you don't have enough storage, make some.

When facing a lack of adequate storage space, consider using open shelving that employs a hanging or wall-mounted design. They not only increase the amount of storage space for the kitchen, but they also add a certain personalized charm to your cooking space.

3. Hide your wires

You all know the problem: you're constantly tripping over cords. Find a way to streamline your appliances' cords—this handy outlet offers a streamlined design that tucks away into the countertop, for example.

4. Don't overcrowd your drawers!

In the hustle and bustle of an overcrowded drawer, it's hard to find the items you need—a person can only use so many forks! The only solution is to take out the unnecessary things. If you have two sets of the same piece, there are plenty of ways to repurpose the extra item or donate it to a local thrift store. You're much better off with it out of the way.

5. Transform your cabinets

Tired of always reaching around in the dark when you're trying to get to the very back of the cabinet? Kitchen designers have come up with a plethora of ways to solve the extra-deep-corner-cabinet problem. Designs like this one are not only visually striking, but there also highly functional, and in a busy kitchen that's your number one priority.  No more reaching around in the dark!

6. Add dividers and trays

These partitions and racks within a drawer are wonderful inventions. They make sure that tableware is placed in the correct position and prevent sliding and cracking. If you're up for making the investment for some drawer organizing tools, you can substantially increase your drawers' efficiency, as well as the lifespan of your crockery.

7. Have a look at the garbage

Update the way you do garbage! A container like this will let you know how much waste you produce every day, raising awareness of household consumption. This is an eco-friendly practice that helps you sort out your recyclables, compost, and trash. It's not just good for the environment— it also help you maintain a tidy home as taking out the garbage becomes a simpler process.

8. Use a magnet

When there's not enough space in the kitchen, you can consider the installation of an entire wall of magnetic sheeting so that your pots and pans and metal utensils can fly from their counters, opening up more workspace. This solution is handy, but it's also just plain fun, as your pots will begin to resemble abstract works of kitchen art!

9. Add lighting

Dark drawers and cabinets are a source of clutter as the darkness tends to hide all of the little objects that get scattered inside. With lighting equipment installed on the inside, you can find things more easily, shortening the amount of time you spend digging around in the drawers.

10. Remove unnecessary items

It's a fact: some things should simply not be in the kitchen. For example, if you have a mobile dining tray like this one, you can consider moving it to the living room or the hallway. Furnishings like these are often used in rooms outside of the kitchen, anyway, so you'll clear up your kitchen space while adding convenient decor to the rest of your rooms!

11. Invest in reusable containers

There's something to be said for uniform, ordered, high quality containers. Old plastic bottles and half-emptied boxes can be discarded, and you can invest in a nice set of glass containers. The transparent nature of glass adds a decorative element to your kitchen, as the various colours of your ingredients fill the space. This also makes it much easier to find what you're looking for, as you can see what's inside each container.

12. Use a chalkboard wall

A chalkboard wall is a fun and creative way to make your home extra organized! If you find that you're writing shopping lists only to lose them somewhere between the living room and the bathroom, a chalkboard is the perfect solution. Not only can you keep your shopping lists organized, you can provide a space for anyone wishing to express their artistic talents!
