The mixture of granite countertop and patterned wood work great together for a rustic and industrial-style kitchen.

2. Turn the wall into a project by splashing it with art

As sprays and spills are bound to happen in every kitchen, a protective wall covering that doubles as a great design feature is one way to upgrade your kitchen on a budget.

Here, different fonts and typography were chosen, but for a more modern kitchen you could choose a geometric pattern or a texturised wall cover. Covered by a layer of plastic, these are great for backsplashes and food prep areas.

3. Modern rustic

This kitchen is a great example of a modern-rustic style, with a touch of industrialism. The patterned floor tiles offer just enough colour without being overpowering and the rustic wood cabinetry and storage units are perfect.

For a cheap upgrade, simply add a nice subway tile backsplash or restrain the wood for a darker colour. If you have a good base to work with, then making changes in small incremements is ideal.

4. Accessories with style

If your kitchen already has bold colours and high-class design, simply stick to choosing unique accessories.

Think about storing your baking spices and utensils in unique containers that add pops of colour and an interesting visual array. Here, red has been chosen for the accessories and we love it!

5. Plants add a natural touch

One of the cheapest ways to make your ktichen look fresh and healthy are to add some plants. For function, consider herb plants that grow well indoors like rosemary and thyme, or for style, stick to succulents and tropical plants for a unique look and something low maintenance.

7. A carpet for the floor

In kitchens we often avoid carpets and rugs – however, a nice rug is great around the dining area as a way distinguish different functions for different spaces.
