An efficient wardrobe that perfectly fits all your clothes and accessories without taking too much space is a real challenge to find. Store-bought closets are often bulky, not effective for organizing clothes and accessories properly, and are not space-efficient at all. That's why many people opt for custom-made closets although they cost more because they know that it's a worthwhile purchase which will allow them to maintain an organized closet without much effort and it also take up less space at home.

In order to design the perfect closet for you, the first thing you need to do is to assess your storage needs. We will help you do this with some simple tips, so read on and get some great ideas on how to design a dream closet that will match your needs perfectly. We have also attached some helpful links related to this article to help you get more ideas and inspiration. 1. How long are your clothes?

The first thing you need to plan for in your closet is for the long clothes. What's the longest piece of clothing item you have? Make you allow enough space in your closet to nicely fit those long dresses so that they don't end up bunched up at the bottom of the closet.

The width of your clothes is also important. Clothes like jackets can take up quite a lot of space, so it is important to consider the width of your clothes as well, especially suits, since you wouldn't want them all wrinkly because they've been squeezed into a closet that is way too small. However, it would be really tedious to measure all the space your clothes need accurately. So to make life easier, here are the rough measurements of how much space various types of clothing typically take up: folded t-shrits and sweaters can take from 7 to 12 inches of space each. Heavy jackets and coats can require up to 60 inches of space, while pants and jeans require about 50 inches of vertical space or about half of that if you fold them, and skirts or dresses can take up between 40 to 50 inches of space.

2. Double and single hang sections

Evaluate the clothes in your closet. Do you own more pants than dresses or skirts? Do you have a lot of heavy jackets or sweaters? Why? Because this should be the basis of your decision of whether to get a bigger double hang section or a bigger single hang selection. Basically, your choice should depend on your clothing collection. You would need a larger double hang section if you own more pants or long dresses and skirts, while you would need a larger single hang section if you own more blouses, shirts,  short skirts or dresses.

3. Corner shelves

Corners are always tricky spaces, whether it's in a room or part of the closet. For closets, we highly recommend making use of the corner space of your closets by installing curvy corner shelves where you can place items that you can easily reach for in a hurry—maybe the essentials like your watch, mobile phone, car keys and house keys. 4. Shoe shelves

For shoe collectors, it is best to make space for shoes in your bedroom closet because the shoe rack outside is going to get full soon and you know it! It's also an excellent idea to make little drawers and open slots for cosmetics and jewelry. For more inspiration, here are 10 fantastic shoe storage ideas for your home!

5. Seasonal clothing

Reserve the highest shelves in your closet for seasonal clothing or for the clothes you wear once in a blue moon, like the clothes you wore for your wedding. Heavy jackets and sweaters which are not needed during the summer can also be stored away in the higher shelves. 6. The island dream

If you have enough space for a walk-in closet, then you will definitely want an island—yes islands in walk-in closets not only super trend and modern, but they're also a great space for large or niche pull-out drawers and make for an ideal dressing table as well. With walk-in closets, you could literally have space for everything, including a sewing kit in case anything goes wrong in the last minute.
