A lack of space of London and house prices increasing by the minute can be a real challenge for any growing family as their home starts to become cramped. Such is the case with the owners of this particular home who opted for an extension to their existing property to give them the space and breath of fresh air that the house needed.

It was important for the clients that the new extension meet their spatial needs but also match the character and style of the rest of the home. Luckily for them, Urbanist Architecture was on hand to help them through the build from the initial client-centric design and planning through to the beautiful end result.

The London firm have been practising architecture for over a decade now and their services range from pre-planning advice and conceptual design to interior design and project management.

With the property being a terraced house in the middle of a conservation area, getting the right planning permission was one of the hurdles that this project presented but Urbanist Architecture’s knowledge and experience meant creatively finding a way around to satisfy the client.

Kitchen Area Remodel

The entire ground floor of the property has been remodelled with superb attention to detail at every inch. Urbanist Architecture worked closely to the clients’ needs and requirements to make sure the final design met their specifications and style preferences. With the owners describing that they spent the majority of their time in the living and dining areas, the ground floor redesign involved shifting these areas to the opposite ends of the house to give them the most light and relocating the kitchen in the middle.

The aesthetics of the kitchen work perfectly, with beige kitchen cabinets and drawers and light wood panel flooring complementing each other well. Combine this with the white table tops and walls and things have been kept bright and airy in the cooking area.

Opening things up

Where once there were internal walls separating the three ground floor areas, the new open-plan design creates one large space with a colour scheme that encompasses all. The flooring helps tie everything together and the end result is a seamless flow through the property.

The newly located dining area

With this being one of the spaces that the family uses the most, keeping it bright and open was paramount to the design. Skylights and Crittall doors help to pour in as much natural light as possible for that open and relaxed feel that makes you want to bask in the sun all day.

Fantastic Crittall doors

These brilliant Crittall doors open out onto a beautiful patio that’s ideal for entertaining and relaxing in the warmer weather.

Urbanist Architecture has a strong diverse team of RIBA chartered architects, planners, interior designers and engineers all working together to create unique and beautiful projects. With the motto “Design to increase” they’re dedicated to work that adds real value to people’s homes and their lives.
